Last night, I convinced the girl to drive down to see yet another show of an artist she had never really listened to. (She is a trooper, that one.) It was the first set of a mini-tour Neko Case is doing over the next month and a half. I had seen her back in November of 2009 (damn, time flies), on the heels of the Middle Cyclone release. Then, she had stage decor, and film running as a background. This time, it was just her and the band against a black curtain.
Her voice was as strong and beautiful as ever. And, I laughed along with her when she stumbled over the lyrics in “Middle Cyclone.” I enjoyed some of the new songs, which weren’t really introduced as new (so, perhaps they were just new to me.)
It was a last minute decision to go to the show. I would have preferred to have been sitting in the “gold circle” close to the stage and feel the crowd energy a bit more. But, overall, it was a fun show, and I was glad Drea was able to come along.
For more on Neko, here is an article posted in Nashville Scene this morning.
